PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES

Combining design and styling by Humphreys Yacht Design with composite engineering by High Modulus, the latest project by McMullen & Wing adds to an already accomplished resume of high tech, high performance custom projects.

Even three MTU16V 4000 M90 series engines, each rated at 2,720 kW, and KaMeWa jet units, weight saving remained a critical requirement to achieve the high speed performance. The M&W design team embarked upon a program to critically analyse every component of the vessel to save weight; the vacuum infusion process of Carbon-fibre / Kevlar / Foam composite was utilized in the building of hull and superstructure, Titanium where possible for deck fittings and hand rails, and light weight veneered foam panels for interior joinery, all to Germanischer Lloyds Class and MCA.

Fitted with a generous array of navigation and communications systems, ERMIS2 is a state of the art vessel, complimented with a interior that is streamlined and light. Paint-treated ash and clear varnish maple combine with contemporary furnishings to create a modern nautical language.

December 2007 and the hard work pays off! - Out on the water ERMIS2 is a sight to behold, and a what ride!
In the Pilothouse it is difficult to tell you are travelling more than 50kts! The vessel's trim and Stidd chairs combine for a fantastic ride. The only thing giving away the immense speed is the extreme rush of wind if you dare to step down the side-decks... hold on to your hat!
LAUNCH - SEPT 2007

September 2007 brings us close to the end of the journey - Launched Sept 29th, ERMIS2 has another 2 months of finishing, sea trials, and commissioning before hand-over.
With most of the work done, everyone is waiting with baited breath to see how she performs on the water.

PREVIOUSLY

The move on May 27th 2006 to the fitout shed marked an important milestone on the project.
Constructed using corbon fibre vacuum infusion, the 124ft lightweight structure was transported using only a travel-lift.
The next scheduled milestone is the installtion of the 3 x MTU16V4000 engines, which will more than double the weight of the vessel to date.
