A big part of McMullen & Wing's history, refits on more than 50 vessels have been completed in the company's lifetime. The broad spectrum of skills and knowledge required for refits has been instrumental in the Company's current range of skills now empolyed for custom new construction in steel, aluminium and composite.
Traditionally yachts such as Yanneke Too, Jagare and Timoneer have visited the South Pacific, avoiding the hurricane season that can dominate weather in the Northern Hemisphere, and taking the opportunity to bring the yacht to a new destination with plenty of cruising opportunities
Yachts including Freedom and Hetairos have visited McMullen & Wing more than once, taking advantage of the companies holistic range of trade skills and experience.
McMullen & Wing's most famous refit was in fact almost a rebuild; with much of the hull plating cut away and replaced, the restoration of S.Y. Shenandoah was internationally recognised with a ShowBoats award in 1998.
While McMullen & Wing's focus has moved from refits to new construction, the skills and experience to complete demanding refit work are still available in the Auckland yard. |
