Built
in
New
York
in
1902,
S.Y.
Shenandoah
arrived
in
New
Zealand
in
an
advanced
state
of
decay,
just
a
short
step
away
from
no
repair.
Removal
of
the
outer
shell
of
fibreglass
revealed
that
around
80%
of
the
original
steel
plate-work
needed
replacing.
Arriving
at
McMullen
&
Wing
as
a
bare
shell
Shenandoah
filled
the
newly-built
slipway
shed,
remaining
there
until
her
launch
in
July
1996.
Involving
staff
from
all
trades
to
complete
her
restoration,
Shenandoah
is
still
considered
by
many
to
be
one
of
the
world's
most
beautiful
classic
yachts
sailing
our
waters.
Our
proudest
refit
achievement
to
date,
the
22
month
project
to
'rebuild'
the
168ft
gaff-rigged
schooner,
was
rewarded
with
the
ShowBoats
International
'Best
Classic
Yacht
Restoration'
Award
in
1997. |
