PAKIHI KURA - 2022

30m mussel farming vessel

The latest aquaculture vessel built for Whakatohea Mussels by McMullen & Wing, Pakihi Kura is an offshore harvester that combines technology and engineering with good design and an understanding of offshore requirements to create a vessel that is not only up to the task but one that also provides a comfortable and safe environment for the crew while at sea.

Designed to cope with some specific environmental challenges as well as general day-to-day requirements for work on the mussel farm, Pakihi Kura features a number of features and components designed and built in-house by McMullen & Wing.

These range from considerations such as positioning the wheelhouse door on the loading side of the vessel and installing equipment to minimise noise for the crew,  to custom designed items such as  weathertight doors, davits and winches.

Pakihi Kura features a raised wheelhouse for optimised visibility including to the aft deck through the galley windows. Insulated and air conditioned, this space is the hub of the vessel with seating, cooking facilities, a fridge and microwave.

Accommodation includes a ‘wet area’ with a large wash-tub, and storage for wet-weather gear and boots, including inbuilt floor drains.

The crew are catered for with four large single bunks, a large shower and separate head.
